You may have heard that your business now needs to appear in AI answers as well as Google results. Then come the acronyms, the new tools and the advice that makes everything sound urgent.
If you are already trying to run a business, look after customers and keep your website useful, it is understandable to wonder where to start.
AI search visibility means how your business or its content appears in search experiences that use AI to find, explain or recommend information. That might involve a mention of your business, a link to your website or an answer that draws on something you have published. Those are different outcomes, so it helps to be clear about which one you are measuring.
What does AI search visibility look like in practice?
Imagine someone asking a search tool:
“Who can help me improve my small business website without rebuilding everything?”
They are describing a problem rather than entering a short keyword. A system may respond with an explanation, supporting links or businesses worth investigating.
Your website should make it easy to establish whether you help with that problem: what you offer, who you work with, what experience you bring and how someone can contact you.
That does not mean every useful page will appear in an AI answer. It means vague service descriptions give potential customers less to work with, wherever they discover you.
Does AI search replace SEO?
Treat them as connected parts of your visibility work.
For Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says existing SEO best practices remain relevant. It does not require special additional optimisation or a new type of AI schema to appear in those features.
Other platforms have their own systems and access requirements. Advice about one platform should not automatically be applied to all of them.
Our AI search optimisation service considers your website, content and wider business information together, with the platforms relevant to your business in mind.
Start with information customers actually need
Before adding another tool, check whether your website answers these questions:
- What exactly can you help me with?
- Is your service suitable for my business or situation?
- Where do you work, if location matters?
- What evidence supports your experience?
- What should I do next?
A heading such as “Solutions that empower your success” leaves the reader to interpret your offer. “WordPress website improvements for small service businesses” gives them something concrete.
Useful supporting content can explain how you work, what is included, what affects the cost and when a service may be unsuitable. Specific examples help readers understand what your advice means in practice.
Make your expertise easier to check
Someone encountering your business for the first time needs reasons to trust it. Introduce the people behind the work, explain relevant experience and include genuine reviews or case studies where available.
Check that your business name, contact details and service descriptions agree across your website and the profiles you maintain. This is basic housekeeping, but it avoids unnecessary uncertainty for a prospective customer.

Measure useful progress, not one flattering answer
Seeing your business mentioned once is interesting. It is not proof that everyone receives the same recommendation.
Record which platform and question you tested, when you tested it and whether your business was mentioned or linked. Compare observations over time alongside website enquiries and search performance.
Google reports traffic from its AI search features within the overall Web performance data in Search Console. That is useful context, but it should not be presented as a complete view of every AI platform.
Your first practical step
Choose your most important service page. Read it as someone who has never heard of you. Identify one unclear explanation, one unanswered question and one missing piece of evidence.
Improving those three things gives you a focused starting point for getting found, understood and chosen.
